When we started camping in EVs, we noticed that mainstream mattress reviews don't address range impact, EV-specific fitment, or how Camp Mode changes insulation needs. Traditional guides tell you to buy the warmest, heaviest mattress. For EV campers, that advice is often wrong.
This guide focuses exclusively on what EV owners actually need: lightweight options, fitment specs by model, and insulation guidance optimized for vehicles with climate control.
Every sleeping dimension on this site is verified against at least one of the following sources, in order of preference:
For mattress specifications, we verify R-value, weight, and thickness against the manufacturer's own product page, REI's product listing, and at least one independent retailer. Where conflicts exist between sources, we use the manufacturer's stated value and note the discrepancy.
We measure three values for every EV:
Battery drain estimates are calculated from the EV's total battery capacity and published HVAC power draw data. We provide two figures: mild temperature (~15°C/59°F) and cold temperature (~-5°C/23°F). EVs with heat pumps (noted in each profile) are significantly more efficient in cold conditions. All figures assume 8 hours of climate control at a moderate cabin temperature setting.
